The RLS-8350 extends Qualstar’s well-respected RLS-8500 Series of automated, high capacity rack mountable tape libraries. Offering superior performance and value, the RLS-8350 delivers 75 terabytes (native). Using typical data compression ratios, capacity can exceed 150 terabytes. One LTO 5 encryption-ready tape drive. Note: up tp 3 drives can be installed to deliver aggregate data transfer rates over three terabytes per hour.

Encryption enabled
Protect valuable data on tapes in transit. The RLS-8350 enables use of the powerful AES 256-bit data encryption capability built into every LTO tape drive. Simple, easy-to-use, library-based encryption key management allows administrators to assign a separate key to each partition.

Q-link™ remote manager
Q-Link is the web browser-based remote library manager that allows any RLS tape library to be configured, monitored, diagnosed and managed from anywhere in the world. Even firmware updates can be implemented remotely.

Reliable, intelligent robotics
The RLS-8350’s unique robotic mechanism is Simply Reliable by design. Leadscrew based robotics using brushless DC motors and closed-loop servo control systems provide precise positioning and flawless media handling for years of dependable operation. All FRUs, options and tape drives are auto-discovering, and all electrical and mechanical adjustments have been completely eliminated by sophisticated, adaptive “smart” logic design. Each tape drive is a self connecting assembly that eliminates handling cables. Simply slide the drives in or out. All service access is through the front or rear of the unit. Once an RLS-8350 is installed in a rack, there is no need to ever dismount it.

Easy operation
The RLS-8350 is equipped with a high resolution, color touch screen for local operation. An intuitive menu-driven control system provides easy-to-use installation, configuration and operation information. Critical operating functions are displayed and an audible alarm signals conditions requiring immediate action. All of the information, functions and controls built into the front panel display are replicated in Q-Link. If allowed by user security policies, Qualstar Technical Support can use Q-Link to monitor library operation to assist with configuration issues and troubleshooting.

Advanced cartridge management and security
Barcode scanning enhances throughput and controls the media inventory. RLS-8350 is equipped with a dedicated 4-slot I/O port for efficient media import and export. The tapes inside the RLS-8350 are physically secured by keyed locks.

Logical library
Logical library partitioning is built into the RLS-8350 library. It allows up to three servers to share a single library, even if each server is running a separate application. Systems that weren’t economical to upgrade can now be protected, automatically.
